Module 4: Build your Confidence

TRANSCRIPT
Hello again, welcome & well done to you! I’m curious to know how it’s all going and how you’re managing the challenges!
In this module we’re going to look at how to build your confidence with 10 ideas to get you started.

You may admire some people and wonder how they got to be so confident. They’re able to speak in public, make decisions, give directives, and readily take on challenges. Like many, you may feel confident in some areas of life but not in others. If you had more confidence, what would you do? How different would your life look? This is an idea to get excited about because contrary to mainstream thinking, we’re not born confidence, rather it’s a skill we learn and you can too!

Confidence starts with the willingness to try, it’s about taking action and learning as you go. So, if you want to become more confident at making decisions then you need to start making decisions. The more you try, the more you learn and the more competent you become. And the more competent you become, the more confident you become! This is what’s known as the Confident – Competence Loop, the one leads to the other.

Here’re 10 Ideas to Get You Started:

  1. Imagine your future self and act like the person you want to become.
  2. Be clear on your motivation- why is this important? How will having more confidence make a difference to you?
  3. Identify a person who you admire for their confidence and envisage how they would go about achieving the task, then follow their lead.
  4. Practice, practice, practice. The more you do something the better you get at doing it, and the more encouraged you’ll feel to try again.
  5. Set achievable goals and work towards them.
  6. Step out of your comfort zone and try new things.
  7. Compare your progress to your past self and not to others.
  8. Focus on positive self- talk.
  9. Surround yourself with people that support and encourage you.
  10. Ask for feedback and use this learning to guide you.

Building confidence is an ongoing process that requires patience and determination.
